Last week we broke open our new Plantronics Discover 925 Bluetooth Headset for a test.  It has a somewhat unique v-frame design and single large button.

Features include -

We are very picky about our Bluetooth headsets.  Both comfort and sound quality are hugely important.  The Discovery 925 has become one of our favorites.  The caller on the other end cannot tell the headset is being used and the quality of the speaker makes it easy to understand the caller.  It is comfortable to wear and has multiple gels for different sized ears.  Overall we would give the Plantronics Discovery 925 an 8 out of 10.

Talk handsfree and listen to MP3s in high quality stereo with the Plantonics M40s stereo earbuds. 

While these are not the quality of a good set of Shure earbuds, they also cost considerably less.  As a result they provide a great value for the price.

The headset provides decent sound and is comfortable.  A 2.5mm and 3.5mm adapter are both included for use with a phone or a MP3 player.

Features include-

The dangling mic works OK but don’t expect a lot of noise cancellation.  In fact, we haven’t found a dangling mic yet we really liked so Plantronics is no worse than the others.

Overall, this is a great value for both music listening and hands free conversations at around $20.

This MobileGlove Vantage holster is a great way to carry your Motorola RAZR or similar sized phone. 

The holster is made of top quality leather with a smooth lining inside to protect the phone from scratches.

The CTIA show finished up yesterday and there were a lot of accessories, phones, and other wireless devices as expected.  One unexpected bit of information is the effect the Olympic preparations in China are having on the cell phone leather case market.  Some accessory companies are reporting shortages already occurring based on China’s crackdown on smaller manufacturing plants.  Others are reporting quality problems with cases that have started just in the last few weeks.  For the moment, it may be difficult to find the normal broad selection of cases but expectation is that once the Olympics is over things should return to normal

Cell phone holsters and cases can both be great options for carrying and protecting your phone.  Generally a holster differs from a case in that the phone has to be removed from a holster for use versus the case staying on during use.  Cases are often custom fitted for a specific model of phone and will not fit on other models.  Holsters are often somewhat universal within size limits.  A small holster will work with a broad range of models and brands as long as they are similar in size.  Holsters generally come in horizontal and vertical carrying positions with some having a ratcheting belt clip allowing you to do either.  If you expect to change phones often and are comfortable with a holster versus a case, you can likely use a holster for future phones and save a few dollars.
